Breaking Chains and Embracing Freedom: Women’s Lives in Helene Oelerich’s Time

Breaking Chains and Embracing Freedom: Women’s Lives in Helene Oelerich’s Time

How Were Women Treated in Helene Oelerich’s Time?

“I accepted that girls just didn’t have the same freedom boys had.”

Helene Oelerich understood those words at a young age, knowing the blatant line between genders was going to keep her from doing so many things.

Imagine being taught such a belief to the point that you would believe the limit society has set upon you. More than that, Helene easily accepted the difference because it was the norm at that time.

Then again, even without the same freedom, Helene was able to live her life freely.

Why was Helene Oelerich able to live an exciting life?

Because, deep down, she also understood that “it was a time in history when her-story was not yet written.”

Despite the obstacles society has put around her gender, Helene decided not to remain caged. She did not aggressively fight her way out; no, she lived her life with a flair befitting of a courageous and peaceful woman.

From reaching her childhood dreams, facing outrageous men in the acting industry, and braving the sorrows of lost love and heartaches, Helene stood at the center of a whirlwind and withstood the tests of time.

It takes a lot of strength to remain at peace in a society that would stop at nothing to remind you of your lower status.

What kind of mindset kept Helene strong?

The kind that truly sees the wonder of womanhood.

Helene stayed true to her femininity as she celebrates the various and diverse life the world could offer her. She did not abhor the men but found balance in their distinction from her gender.

While it’s true that women were given a lot more restrictions, Helene shows her readers that you can live life without causing trouble. After all, despite the chains, it is a choice to remain shackled by the limits or soar higher than the barricades.
