Bridging the Gap: How Age Difference Can Impact Sibling Bonds

Can Age Gap Affect Sibling Bond?

People say age is just a number. While the statement is technically correct, the meaning behind it can be a cause for conflict.

After all, a lot can happen in such a short time.

How can age gap affect any relationship?

Imagine, a single day has the possibility of changing an individual’s entire life. What more when it comes to a year?

Society can also change a lot at the turn of time. What are held deeply by a particular generation’s beliefs can become overturned at the rising of a new dawn. Just a few decades ago, men held all the societal powers; but now, women are fighting back. Perhaps too much at times, but still, the difference is stark.

So, what does age gap have to do with sibling bond?

The experiences a person gains at a certain time in a specific period can greatly affect their mindset. This way of thinking is the big difference that separates ages.

This is clear in the way Helene looks up at his brother, Irving. As she grows, her brother always seems to have done already so many things compared to her. When she was just twelve, Irving had already gone to the army and commanded his own platoon.

The eight years that separated them becomes apparent when Helene was still celebrating the best of youth, Irv had decided to leave home in search for his own truth.

Has the span of years affected their sibling bond?

The bond between siblings is one that has the power to overcome the span of time.

Despite the eight years between them, Irving spent tjme with his younger sister. Despite their different paths in life, they stayed close together through the ups and downs.

Irving had given Helene to her husband on her wedding day. And he was there to offer the money she used to settle her divorce. Such deep trust, understanding, and acceptance they had for each other.

How age gap can affect siblings depends on the siblings’ value for one another.
